Game Day Food: Healthy Black Bean Dip

Can you tell that I am a huge fan of snacking? The guiltless game day snacks section is probably my biggest category in my Food Corner. There is a reason for that though, snacking is one area that’s easy to overlook but the calories for a handful of chips here and some wings there can really add up. That’s why I am always looking for new alternatives to swap out those the fatty snacks.

(Especially with the playoffs now here- Go Patriots!)

I was loving this black bean dip at my local supermarket, so I decided to try and make my own. This recipe is not only delicious but super easy to make (exactly what I need). When I made this recipe I chose not to make it really spicy, but next time I might experiment with some chipotle in it.

Black Bean Dip Recipe:

15 ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed

1/2 cup salsa

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, including stems

2 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

– Mix all ingredients in a food processor and pulsate until nearly blended. (If needed add a tiny bit of water to thin recipe.)

 Serve with tortilla chips, fresh vegetables, or pita chips. (I prefer Utz Blue Corn Tortilla chips)
